Cutting thick fur requires a powerful motor with Speed Control. Some dog clippers will not work at the same speed all the time. That’s how dragging happens. The thick fur is also curly hair, if the clipper loses speed, you are going to have a hard time clipping the dog. More so, the dog will be distressed.
Look for dog clippers with Constant Speed Control. There are some high-tier clippers that have up to 5-speed controls. But for thick fur 2-speed controls would be enough, something with high strokes per minute. Most heavy-duty high torque dog clippers will be good enough for clipping matted hair and thick fur.
Blade Clippers
A powerful motor alone is not enough for cutting a thick coat. If the blade clippers are not sharp nor big enough, the fur won’t get cut. That’s why I recommend getting dog clippers with a powerful motor and sharp blade clippers.
